Foundation safe mystery!

Our house is 109 years old. It has a lot of cool features in it...and a few mysteries! We randomly met the grandchildren of one of the previous owners at a furniture store. When they delivered the furniture they asked if they could have a tour of the house. They loved going through the whole house and telling me what their grandfather had done 20 years ago. While in the basement they said that they remember a safe cemented into the foundation. Drywall was covering the walls now, so it was not easy to confirm their story. But, our curiosity lingered...

Right now, my little sister is helping to finish our basement and we though we should take off some drywall and look for the "mystery safe" We took off 3 sheets of drywall before we found it. Unfortunately, it was only filled with...dust. The last owners must have looted it. Drat! But luckily, it was unlocked, so we could figure out the combination while it was unlocked.

It has been very fun locking and unlocking it and dreaming of all the cool things we are going to do with it. So far, we've decided to cut out the drywall around it, hang a picture (with moving eyes) in front of it on hinges. Then, whenever we get jewels or gold bars, we can just open the picture and get access right to our very cool safe.

Sherlock step aside.

I think that is by fAR one of the coolest things I have EVER seen! How cool are you guys to have a built in safe. I really hope you do put a picture over it, you don't even know the amount cool points you would receive!

Forget the safe, I like that retro (lead, I assume?) mint green paint!

You guys are already very cool, in my book; this brings you to the first page--let me know when you put gold bars in there and I will come over in the middle of the night, crack the code (I'm a ninja with lock skills) and steal them into the night....

Gold bars are a good idea. I leave mine laying around the house and I stub my toe on them...it would be handy to have them in an out-of-the-way place like a safe that's covered by a creepy picture.
