Patriotism

Not an assumption of grandeur
nor a blind eye to the errors of our past
the problems of our present.
Patriotism is an acknowledgement of the ideal.
Gratitude to the mothers and fathers
husbands and wives
sons and daughters
who have died
and who have lived to build
a community.
Patriotism is reverence to God
and a call to be godly.
Patriotism is not entitlement to our wants
but desire to contribute.
A continuation of an aged goal.
A knowledge of its worth.

Patriotism is hope,
remembrance,
action.
